Tibetan Prayer Flags
Tibetan prayer flags, or Dar Cho, are inscribed with sacred symbols, prayers, and mantras. “Dar” means to increase life, fortune, health, and wealth, while “Cho” represents all sentient beings. Traditionally, these flags work with the natural energy of wind to harmonise the environment, bringing happiness, good fortune, and prosperity to you and those around you.
Originating in Tibet over 2,000 years ago, prayer flags were used to honour the nature gods of Bon. The flags feature the five elemental colours:
-
Blue: sky/space
-
White: air/clouds
-
Red: fire
-
Green: water
-
Yellow: earth
Balancing the elements internally is believed to promote health and well-being of both body and mind. Flags were traditionally hung outside homes, over mountain passes, rivers, and sacred spaces, allowing the wind to carry their blessings across the land.
